The Education Foundation of Collier County has directly supported the success of students and their teachers through programs funded by generous contributions from the community. In working to support leadership development in the schools and to engage community partners, the organization often encountered misunderstanding and distrust between the schools and parts of the community. For years, an eroding relationship between the Collier County School Board and administration had shaken public confidence in the system. This situation was exacerbated by an underlying and pre-existing condition: substantial segments of our community did not and do not feel connected to our schools. The Education Foundation of Collier County, aware of this frayed school-community connection, set out to discover the community’s shared priorities for education and improving community life.
