Champions For Learning has a variety volunteer roles, with varying time commitments.
Take Stock in Children Mentors: Meet with the same student weekly during lunch on the student’s school campus. Each student is expected to maintain his/her GPA, remain drug and crime free, and meet with a mentor weekly. When students fulfill this commitment and graduate high school, they receive a 2 year scholarship to a Florida state college or community college. Mentor candidates should be residents of Lee or Collier County for at least 2 years.
Real World Coach: Help students in group settings on a periodic or short term basis with learning about career pathways, goal-setting, and/or employability/foundational skills.
College Prep Volunteer: Help students on an ongoing or periodic basis with college and scholarship applications, essay writing, test preparation, and/or research.
Financial Aid/College Goal Sunday Volunteer: Become trained in helping families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which is critical for them to be considered for all federal, state, and institutional financial aid. College Goal Sunday will take place in February 2016.
Conversation Leaders: Help to lead table conversations at Connect Now Roundtables and other interactive sessions on a periodic basis.
Classroom Grant Selection Committee: Reads teacher requests for classroom grant funding for innovative projects and scores to select the grants that will be funded.
Classrooms in Action Volunteer: Observe the results of classroom grants on a periodic basis.
Fundraising Volunteer: Share the mission of the organization and secure funding for educator and student programs.
Office Volunteers: Assist in the office with a variety of projects from mailing campaigns, phone calls, event preparation, program support, and more.
Event Volunteers: Volunteers are needed onsite at both fundraising and programmatic events to assist with event set up/break down, registration, raffle sales, help with deliveries and food pick-ups, etc.
